CLASSIC COCKTAIL FRIDAY!

Happy Friday Everyone!

Since 4th of July is just around the corner and some of you dear readers out there maybe planning some killer BBQ parties, I figured I would go ahead and supply you with a fun and refreshingly light drink recipe to help you get your firework poppin' started!

The history of this drink is a rather interesting one as in 1874, people would start a conversation with "Have you seen Tom Collins?"  After the listener predictably reacts by explaining that they did not know a Tom Collins, the speaker would assert that Tom Collins was talking about the listener to others and that Tom Collins was "just around the corner", as " in a local bar," or somewhere else near by.
The conversation about the nonexistent Tom Collins was a proven not only to be a running fad for the time but also a hoax of exposure and became known as The Great Tom Collins hoax of 1874 which is the most plausible source of the name for this particular drink.

So if you haven't guessed what this week's cocktail is, which also happens to be two of the three colors used to celebrate our independence day, by now then here you go!

Today's Cocktail:

TOM COLLINS
INGREDIENTS

ice cubes
2 oz. dry gin
2 oz. lemon juice
1 teaspoon sugar (gomme) syrup
soda water
slice of lemon
1 colored cherry

INSTRUCTIONS

Place ample ice in large glass. Add gin, lemon juice and syrup. Top up with soda water and stir well. Serve with lemon slice, cherry and a straw

*add a dash of blue Hpnotiq for a red, white, and blue twist!

If you are daring enough to try the 1891 version:

a bar-spoonful of sugar,
a drink of Tom gin; mix this well;
2 lumps of ice,
a bottle of plain soda.
