Boy has this been a trying week and I'm sure for me there are many more to come but for now I am so glad the weekend is finally here and the 20th annual LB Crawfish Festival is just less than 24 hours away!
Being from Texas, I grew up on crawfish boils and all the creole fixin's that are must haves at these all you can eat feasts! Needless to say I can not wait to get a hold of some beignets and crawdads!
So in honor of the Crawfish Fest and acknowledging its French/Creole roots, I figured this weekend's kick off cocktail should be name fitting as the drink was created in 1915 at the New York Bar in Paris by barman Harry MacElhone but was actually popularized in America at New York's infamous Stork Club. The combination was said to have such a kick that it felt like being shelled with the powerful French 75mm field gun, also giving it the side "75 Cocktail", or "Soixante Quinze" in French.
So without further adew, I bring you this week's Classic Cocktail:
1 oz gin
1/2 oz. simple syrup or 2 tsp. superfine sugar
1/2 oz. lemon juice
Brut Champagne or other dry sparkling wine
Combine gin, sugar, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake vigorously and strain into an iced champagne glass.
Fill with Champagne and garnish with a twist of lemon.
